Fulwider Patton LLP Announces Michael J. Moffatt Has Been Named Partner; Kenneth Cheney Joins the Firm
Fulwider Patton LLP is pleased to announce that Michael J. Moffatt has been named a partner in the firm. Mr. Moffatt joined Fulwider Patton LLP in April 2002 as an Associate. He is a member of the California Bar and is a registered Patent Attorney; his practice focuses on patent prosecution and litigation in the mechanical and electromechancial arts and medical devices. Mr. Moffatt also serves on the board of advisors for the California State University Regional Technology Center, and is a member of the RTC's mentoring committee. He has also guest lectured at several universities on intellectual properties issues. Mr. Moffatt graduated cum laude from Pepperdine University School of Law (1995) after receiving his Bachelor (1986) and Masters Degrees (1992) in Mechanical Engineering from California State University, Long Beach.
Prior to joining Fulwider, Mr. Moffatt was a partner with the firm of Price & Gess in Irvine, California. He also served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Edward Rafeedie in the District Court for the Central District of California. Mr. Moffatt also worked for six years as a scientist for Rockwell International's Space Division, where he performed analysis on the Space Shuttle fuel system structural integrity and plume heating effects.
Kenneth Cheney, a former project manager for Sony Pictures Entertainment, has joined Fulwider Patton LLP as an associate. Prior to joining Fulwider, Cheney had practiced as an electrical and computer engineer with Fortune 150 companies, including TRW Space & Technology, PacifiCare, and most recently, Sony Pictures Entertainment. Ken is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and was part of the development team that created the original Ditech.com website.
Cheney received his J.D. from Loyola Law School in December 2007, and his B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of California, Irvine, in 2003. While in law school, Cheney was a senior productions editor of the Loyola International Law Review. His recently published comment, Patentability of Stem Cell Research Under TRIPS: Can Morality-Based Exclusions Be Better Defined by Emerging Customary International Law?, explores global trends in stem cell laws and patent practice.
Cheney has been admitted to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office. He is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, American Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Inns of Court. Cheney's current practice includes the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in a variety of disciplines.
